50k training: week 2

Another week of 50k training in the books! Here's the week in a snapshot:

Monday: 5 miles on the treadmill, 47:34

Tuesday: 9.29 miles, 1:22:00

Wednesday: 5 miles on the treadmill, 47:00

Thursday: Off, busy day

Friday: 8.1 miles, 1:11:00

Saturday: 17 miles, 2:30:00

Sunday: Off

Total: 38.5 miles

This week presented a considerable jump in mileage, particularly with my long run. I made use of my treadmill a bit more on some days that were challenging with the kids, which also explains why I missed my Thursday run; a combination of needing more sleep and some chaotic factors that prohibited treadmilling that day.

I enjoyed more Christmas lights this week, although my pictures were not as great.

Tuesday night's run was the feature event of the week, as I joined a group known as the "Crazies" and ran in the dark at one of the state parks. It was extremely fun and while the overall pace seems reasonable, we would hit a several low seven miles before stopping to regroup, as well as taking our time on some slippery/rocky parts of trail. The climb home to the end of the run features a 352 feet of elevation gain in just under a mile; the effort to get up that hill was as advertised, aka considerable. I exclaimed, "whew!" multiple times in those ten minutes.

Saturday's long run felt incredibly smooth. I restrained myself and enjoyed clicking off miles with a friend at an easy 9 minute pace. I expected a lot of fatigue at the end of the run, but the tiredness in my legs was far less than that expectation. I felt amazing in the thirty degree weather. While it can be harder mentally to get out into the winter air, it is my favorite weater to run in.

As I am writing this, it is the middle of week 3 training, and I have had an unexpected day off due to some foot pain. I am hoping it is not a stress fracture, although I have passed the single hop test (hopping ten times in a row without pain) and the pain lessened when I ran on Monday instead of worsening. Say a prayer for me!

If all goes well with the foot, I am looking forward to several Christmas light runs next week, including a large group run that my husband will be able to push the kids along in the double stroller at.

Enjoy your miles this week!

This week, I capped off the third week in a building block that focused on some threshold/10k efforts and long runs that were either quite far or had workouts built into them. This week had another 20
